Hunting from a tree stand is a great deer hunting method. You are above the deer and above where they are typically expect to look for danger. You have a more of a birds eye view of your hunting area. You must use all the safety equipment that comes with your tree stand. You should try and have your tree stand about 20 feet off the ground, depending on the terrain and the distance you are shooting for. You should try and have your tree stand in place before you plan on hunting from it. So you have had some time to practicing climbing the tree stand. And are comfortable with getting in and out of your tree stand in the dark if necessary, if you plan to hunt right to dark. Make sure you have your shooting lanes cut before you are hunting in it. Make sure you always use your safety harness when you are climbing and sitting in your tree stand. As if you fall from 20 feet or more you will brake something. And like most people you may get excited when you see a big mature buck walking towards your tree stand, causing you to lose your balance. Having a good rest in the tree stand with you is also a great idea if you plan on taking long shots with your rifle. If you are hunting with a gun in your tree stand, you should never carry your gun up the tree with you, when you are climbing the tree to get into position. You should have a rope or pulley system in place so after you are in your tree stand you, can safely pull it up the tree. Remember to unload your rifle before you pull it up the tree to you.Remember to have your tree stand setup before you use it and have practice getting in and out of it in the dark if needed.
It is always a good idea to let someone know where you are planning on hunting and plan to returning. It is extremely important when you are hunting from a tree stand. Just in case something should happen.
